The Never-ending Martial Law

Written by Malaginoo.

To ignore and forget the declaration of Martial Law, the infamous yet eclectic day of September 21st of 1972 that continues to govern our social consciousness is to reject outright what has made us people of this archipelago. It would be catastrophic to do so while many of its guiding principles continue as state policy. Crony companies are still alive and kicking, controlling the local economy without competition or consideration for their workers. Local and national politics is dominate by the same players even the children and grandchildren of the dictator. All while the debt and financial ruin that was incurred by the State continues to drain Filipinos pockets dry every year.

Supak sa Anti-Terror Bill

Gisulat ni Malaginoo, paghubad ni Sintabasan gikan sa orihinal “Against the Terror of Anti-Terror.”

A translation of our piece “Against the Terror of Anti-Terror” by Malaginoo into Bahasa Indonesian. Translated by Ishtar Jawa at Rimpang.

Teks Asli: Against the Terror of Anti-Terror

To Be Queer is to Love All

Written by Malaginoo.

Content and trigger warning: This text discusses physical, mental, and sexual abuse, discrimination, and murder committed against queer people.

For the first time, I’m going to speak in the first person, because contrary to the belief of religious conservatives and macho-fascists, there is no such thing as a Gay Agenda™, and the queer community isn’t a monolith. I cannot write for all queers, nor the communities I have come to know and love in my less than two decades of existence in the world. No, they have their own stories to tell, and they have their own time to tell it. I have mine. I can only write for myself, but that’s a good start, isn’t it?

Against the Terror of Anti-Terror

Written by Malaginoo.

The Philippine government is another step closer to revealing its true self: an undemocratic, oppressive entity ready to protect and serve the interests of the powerful, wealthy, and privileged few. Before there was talk of lockdowns and quarantines during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was the issue of updating the Human Security Act, a law defining the parameters of terrorism. After many days and weeks of politicking, grandstanding, and red-tagging, Congress unveiled the 2020 Anti-Terror Bill. Fear and Favor: Freedom of the Press in the Archipelago

Written by Malaginoo of Bandilang Itim.

On May 3, the world observes the World Press Freedom Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to commemorate the valiant duties and efforts of the press. On this day, we reflect the role of journalism in our lives, and remember the journalists who are persecuted and killed for reporting the truth for the world to know. We are called to stand for “Journalism Without Fear or Favor” something that has been lacking in our country, especially under our current government.

Quarantine

Kapag may umaalma, may nagreklamo, pinaparatangan at inaaresto agad bilang terorista.

Blossoms of an Aborted Revolution

Original analysis by Malaginoo.

Let us not mince our words. The EDSA Revolution has failed.

If you look around at the state of society in our archipelago, you can see clear parallels to the horrors of 1972. A dictator, with the military and police in the palm of his hand, supported by sycophants blindly loyal to his person and by local and foreign capitalist interests, brutally murdering and terrorizing the poor, and the dissidents who fight for them.

It’s as if we never woke up from the nightmare.
